Idols are made to entertain them until those fans abandon and forget them, moving on to the next season and a brand new set of idols, raising them in the popularity charts. Only the winners are exalted by the segyein, bringing fame and riches to their guardians. Perhaps the only thing he will leave behind are his songs and someone else will take them up on that stage.
It isn't lost on him if he is amusing enough, charming, and engaging. If he keeps them enthralled, maybe, just maybe he can live a little longer. ] We wouldn't die if we were loved, right?

Even the teachers in Anakt Garden were all segyein. They're the fans and the ones who vote during the competition—the ones who cheer at the end.
